AM Tips
The CC Witness is one of the only MP3 recorders
with a built in AM radio! You can preset up to ten AM
stations into the CC Witness. You can also set
timers to record from your preset stations,
so you'll never have to miss your favorite
radio program. Below are some tips to help your CC
Witness recieve and record AM radio.
RECEPTION The
CC Witness features an internal AM ferrite antenna. However,
because the internal antenna is small, you may notice that the
reception capability of the CC Witness is less than a larger
AM radio. There are a few ways you can increase the
reception on your CC Witness.
Moving your CC Witness
away from all interfering devices is the first thing to
do. Devices like A.C. adapters (wall warts), plasma
T.V.s, computer monitors, dimmer switches, motion detectors,
and flourescent light bulbs all interfere with AM
reception, so try to avoid using the CC Witness in close
proximity to such contraptions.
Digital displays
(like the digital display on the CC
Witness) also interfere with AM reception. Because of
this, the CC Witness was specially designed with
a setting to actually turn off the digital display while
listening to AM radio! To activate/enable this setting,
just hit the "MENU" button, then click on
"Settings". Next, click on "Display Settings", and go to
"AM Display", then set it to "Turn Display OFF". Upon
completion of this, you can press the "MENU" button, and go to
"AM" and listen to AM radio. You'll see that the display
turns completely off after about three seconds. You'll
still be able to hear audio, and you'll notice an increase in
reception. Press any button and the display turns on again.

Twin Coil Antenna by C.
Crane | To boost your AM reception even further, you may
want to try using an external AM antenna with the CC
Witness. Many AM antennas work by proximity,
and won't require any special connections. The C.
Crane company makes an AM antenna that is perfect for the
CC Witness. It's called the Twin Coil Ferrite Antenna (see picture at right). If you have the
CC Witness accessory kit , you're already one step
ahead.

The backside of the CCWitness charging
cradle with the Twin Coil Antenna adapter attached
(upper portion).
| On the upper back side of the charging cradle
(included with the accessory kit), there is a space
specially-designed to hold a small CC Witness antenna adapter (see picture at left). The specialized antenna
adapter (sold seperately) connects to the Twin Coil Ferrite
Antenna. So when you have your CC Witness in the charging
cradle, you'll enjoy the increased reception of the Twin Coil
Ferrite Antenna. This makes a great system for recording
AM radio.
RECORDING After you've done everything
you can to increase your reception, you're ready to
record. If you are going to record audio from a separate
AM radio, please refer to the Line-In Recording page of this
site. The tips and ideas on this page are regarding
recording from the CC Witness' built in AM radio.
The
CC Witness is equipped with built in recording
timers. You can use these timers to record radio programs
you may otherwise miss. To set a timer, start by pressing
the "MENU" button. Next, select "Timers", then select
"Set Timers". Then, adjust the available timer settings to
your preference. You can choose which station frequency
to record, what time to begin and end recording,
and which days to record on. You can choose a single
specific date to record on, or set it to record in a scheduled
fashion (for automatically recording daily
programs).
After the recording is complete, you can
listen to it by pressing the "MENU" button, then go to
"Files", then select "Timers".
