Recording
with the Internal Microphone
Whether you're
writing a book, working on an important project, writing
music, or just simply spend a lot of time thinking, you're
full of ideas. Now, how
many of those ideas are lost before they've been written
down? Too
many? The CC
Witness is ready to help.
With its built-in microphone, it makes the perfect tool
for quick note recording.
You'll be surprised by the amount of progress you'll
make when you're no longer spending valuable time trying to
remember that good idea you had on the way
home.
Here are some tips to help ensure your internal mic
recordings are as clear as possible.
While recording, keep all physical contact with the
CC Witness to a minimum. Sound travels better (and
faster) through a solid object than it does through air. Have
you ever seen a movie where someone puts their ear to the
railroad tracks to hear the approaching train before it's
visible? The same principle applies here. Handling the Witness
while recording with the internal mic results in lots of
unwanted noise. This noise can ruin a recording.
The best way to minimize the chance of this is to place the
Witness on a stationary surface while recording. Just be
sure the side of the Witness with the mic is facing toward the
sound being recorded.
In
many instances, it is necessary to hold the Witness while
recording. Especially when you just want to document a quick
note or idea. In these situations, you'll get the best results
if you hold the Witness securely, but not too tightly.
Try your best to keep a consistent hold. Squeezing,
relaxing, or adjusting your grip will result in unwanted
noise. So be sure you get a comfortable grip before you
start recording.
The internal mic on the CC Witness is
great for normal sounds and voices; however, noises with a
high SPL (sound pressure level) can overdrive the mic and
cause distortion. To avoid this, be sure the sound being
recorded is not too loud or bass-heavy. If you do want to
record loud sounds, please refer to the external microphone page
of this site. If you're using
the Witness to record voice, hold the Witness six to ten
inches from your mouth for best results.
